Experience the Northern Cape, South Africa

The Northern Cape is a vast province with interesting towns and many discoveries to be made. One such discovery is the annual Williston Winter Festival, which occurs around spring every year. The festival celebrates the end of winter and highlights the culture, heritage and history of the people in this part of the Karoo.

This year you can enjoy interesting and unique local performances, including the riel dance, a traditional group courtship dance performed in a circle. During the dance, ladies stay on one side while the men mock-battle in a way that narrates a story. There will also be local food and drinks on sale, including craft beers, kudu salami, the best meat in the Karoo, pecan nuts, pomegranates and olives.

The festival takes place at various venues within the town, including the sandstone Dutch Reformed Church and the quirky Williston Mall and Doppies Bar.

Ticket prices: R350 for an all-weekend access pass.
