The base camp at the |Ai/Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is almost ready for the Richtersveld World Heritage Site MTB Tour, which is set to take place from 2 to 6 July.
This isn’t a race – mountain-bike cyclists will ride at their own pace with the aim of exploring the majestic |Ai/Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park and taking in its rugged beauty. If you’re not a cyclists and are just looking to explore this World Heritage Site by jogging, hiking or simply sightseeing along the trail, you’re also welcome to register and join the fun – the tour is open to young and old.
Participants will be provided with support, meals and camps. The tour will kick off with registration and an information session at the base camp on the evening of 2 July.
On 3 July participants will complete 43km while exploring the culture rich sections of the Richtersveld. On day three things go up a notch with a 50km lap that is mostly uphill.
On day four, the tour will be less challenging with just more than 35km to cover on mostly flat surfaces, with patches of sand and downhill sections. The last day of the tour, day five, will see participants enjoying a hearty breakfast and a photo session before heading back home.
