The Northern Cape also offers visitors cultural experiences that give fascinating insight into early human historical records, heritage sites, and ancient customs and traditions that are still practised today.

The Erin Game Ranch, for example, offers cultural activities such as dances, guided walking and tracking sessions. These are conducted by the local ‡Khomani San community and give intriguing insight into the community’s history and culture.

Other activities visitors can enjoy at the ranch, which is located south of the Ae!Hai Kalahari Heritage Park in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, include 4x4 drives and wildlife viewing. Animals you can spot here include oryx, Kalahari springbok, blue wildebeest, camels, giraffe, zebra and ostrich.

Also in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, guests can learn more about the heritage and traditions of the ‡Khomani San and Mier communities at a recreated cultural village near the !Xaus Lodge.

The location of the lodge (pronounced “kaus”) gives guests a desert experience like no other – the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is an unspoilt expanse of wilderness, straddling South Africa and Botswana and covering a colossal 3.8-million hectares, making it one of the largest conservation areas in the world.
